SONG: Cease ARTIST: Bad Religion ALBUM: The Gray Race YEAR: 1996
I got an advance copy of Bad Religion's new album, "The Gray Race" (as far as I know, it will be released March 5th). While this isn't (I guess)=
the easiest song on the album to figure out (especially lyric-wise) it's the first one I've figured out so far, and IMHO one of the best, so enjoy! The lyrics are probably really screwed up by me, but from what I can make=
of 'em, they're some of Greg Graffin's best. Hey, the man has a Ph.D. for=
chrissakes!
"Cease" -- Bad Religion
Flat top pave-ment com-fort me
Like a chemical reaction or a steamroller, spreading randomly
There=D5s a distant fuzz of a frequency
It tickles my ears, rustles under my feet
And it shakes the leaves off of every tree
Vio-lent-ly
What protection everlasting peace (??)
Everything must cease
(same chords as before) In-sti-tu-tion on the hill Like a beacon in the mind of an ancestor to remind the people=D5s will (??) There=D5s a shadow stain on the west facade It is spread like a cave to entrap the pod (???) And the decent folks find it oh so odd Oh so odd What protection everlasting peace Everything must cease
(pluck 6th string only -- this part is slow)
Brave me-mo-rials hewn white stone
Like the comforting caress of a mother or a friend you've always known (strum from here -- resumes normal Bad Religion tempo)
It evokes such pain and significance
What was once is reduced to remembrance
And the generations pass without recompense
Aa-aaaa-hhh...
What protection everlasting peace
Everything must cease
